Beyond the numbers
Three things that make support feel like support.
When these pieces are in place, everything else gets easier. This is what we focus on every day.

Familiar Faces
When you see the same DSPs week after week, routines become second nature. Trust builds on its own. Whether for you or your loved one, consistency changes everything.

Real Conversations
When you call, someone who knows you picks up. Updates arrive on time. You stay part of every decision that matters to you or your loved one.

Seen as a Whole Person
You (or your loved one) deserve to be known. Real interests, real goals, real preferences. Care that starts with who you are.

The Official Oregon Process
We guide you through the entire process
Changing or adding providers in Oregon is a standardized administrative process. We walk you through every step, so you do not have to figure it out alone.
One
Call your case manager or agent
Your state-assigned guide for the process. We'll tell you exactly what to say.
Two
Attend the meetings
A conversation with your case manager and our Intake Meeting. We coordinate behind the scenes.
Three
Sign the updated ISP
Your Individual Support Plan is updated to authorize services with us.
Here's exactly what to say
One sentence starts the whole process.
You don’t need to figure out what to say to your case manager or personal agent. Say this. That’s how it starts.
“I would like to add Essential Services as a provider agency.”
That's it. Oregon's IDD regulations require your case manager or personal agent to support your request. We'll handle the rest.
What makes us different
Three things we focus on every day.
We build real relationships, starting before Day 1 and continuing for years. Here's what that looks like in practice.
Safety from Day One
Before your first day with us, our Referrals team meets with you at home. We learn every medical protocol, every behavioral plan, every daily routine.
- An actual meeting at your home
- Coordinated with your case manager or personal agent
- A smooth change, coordinated behind the scenes
People, Not Shifts
We match based on personality, interests, energy, and specific needs. You meet your match before anyone starts.
- Informal Meet and Greet
- Or a trial shift together
- Or a short-term schedule. You have the final say
A Team That Stays
Our average staff tenure is 10+ years. You or your loved one build real relationships with people invested long-term.
- Competitive pay and benefits
- Ongoing training investment
- A real culture rooted in caring for each other
Real families, real stories
Stories from Oregon IDD families.
Stories shared with consent. Names and details approved by each family.
Watch: a short walkthrough
The whole process in 2 minutes.
No sales pitch. Just a plain-language walkthrough of how the process works, from the first conversation to the first day of support.
Your questions, answered
The five things families ask us first.
Will there be a gap in care during the transition?
No. Oregon’s process is designed to prevent gaps. Your case manager sets your old provider’s end date and our start date in your ISP, we meet with you at home (or virtually) before Day 1, and services continue uninterrupted throughout.
How does my loved one adjust to a new DSP?
Our Meet and Greet lets you meet the DSP before services start. If the match is not right, you say so, and we match again. Families typically see their loved one settle in within two to four weeks of consistent, relationship-based support.
Will my case manager push back if I want to change providers?
Oregon’s IDD regulations require your case manager or personal agent to support your request. Helping you evaluate your options is part of their role (formally called choice advising in the state’s rules). Our Referrals team works with them behind the scenes so you do not have to chase anything.
How will I know if Essential Services is the right fit?
Start with the free Compatibility Check call. It is a 20-30 minute conversation where we learn about you (or your loved one) and you learn about how we work. If it feels right, we schedule an in-home meeting. If it is not the right match, we will say so.
Will changing providers make me a "problem family"?
No. Changing providers is a routine right, not a complaint. Thousands of Oregon families change providers every year. Your loved one will not be treated differently. If anything, advocating for the right care is what the system is built to support.
Your first step toward the right IDD provider is a conversation.
Take the two-minute Compatibility Quiz. If we are a match, we schedule a free Compatibility Check call. If we are not, we say so.
