Safe & Reliable Transportation Support

Transportation can be a challenge for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At Essential Services of Oregon, our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) often assist with transportation support as part of their regular care duties, helping clients access community resources and stay engaged in their preferred activities outside of the home.

How Our Direct Service Professionals Can Provide Transportation Support

While transportation is not a standalone service we offer, it is frequently integrated into the broader support provided by our DSPs to ensure clients can participate fully in community life.

How we assist:

  • DSPs provide reliable transportation to community destinations such as grocery stores, social events, and recreational activities as part of their overall care responsibilities.
  • Transportation is always paired with ongoing support at the destination – DSPs remain with clients to assist them throughout their activities.
  • This integrated approach ensures clients receive consistent care while addressing transportation barriers that might limit their independence or community involvement.
  • Whether running errands or attending events, our DSPs are there every step of the way to support clients in achieving their goals.

Transportation is not a separate program or service but rather a component of the holistic care our DSPs provide. By incorporating transportation into their daily support duties, DSPs help clients overcome mobility challenges and maintain an active presence in their communities.

Understanding Transportation Support Funding

Transportation support is typically funded through a client’s Individual Support Plan (ISP) if it is identified as part of their assessed needs. When included in the ISP, mileage costs are reimbursed through the Oregon K-Plan.

In some cases, Essential Services may absorb transportation costs when they are not covered by the ISP. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis to ensure clients can access necessary community resources and activities without undue financial burden.

Case managers work closely with clients during the ISP planning process to identify transportation needs and ensure they are addressed as part of the overall support plan. This collaborative approach ensures seamless care that meets each client’s unique needs.

By removing transportation barriers, we empower individuals to lead full, engaged lives without worrying about mobility limitations.
